Long Life and Good Health to the 33rd Abbot of Menri Bon Monastery, H. H. Menri Trizin
Message from Geshe Yonten Palsang
Dear Dharma friends, donors, contributors and well-wishers
It’s sad to break the news of the fire that broke out in the residence of the Lama of Sipchok Monastery-Yang Gon Dheden Phuntsokling, the only Bon Gonpa in the valley of Dho Tarap, Dolpo on the 3rd of March 2016 at around 1:00 am. The fire accident might have taken place from the flame of butter lamp which is offered that night as usual. Its very disheartening that all the precious statues, sacred scriptures including hand written gold inked texts and symbolic temples, sacred masks and all other ritual items that dated back to 800 years were lost to the fire including the basic offering utencils.
This monastery is historically one of an important bon Gonpa of Gyal shen Ya Ngal lineage established by Yangton Master Yungdrung Gyaltsen some six hundreds years ago. Till now the monastery has preserved the precious statues, texts and symbolic temples of thousands year old Merbu Samten Ling Gonpa established by Treton Lineage. This monastery is the only bon tradition centre for the population of around 1500 of Tarap Valley.
After the complete burnt down, its very unrealistic in thinking about reviving the past glory of this monastery. But though without being discourage and distressed to this catastrophe, we take a strong committment to restore the monastery and all ritual items. Thus due to our dire financial condition, we have no option other than to ask for your kind help and generosity in providing donations. We promise to use the received donation solely for that propose.
Thanking you.
Sincerely yours
Geshe Yonten Palsang (Rinzin Lama)
Acting Head Lama
Yang Gon Dheden Phuntsokling
Dho-4, Dolpo
